But soon, she gathers herself and tends to the remaining plants with renewed dedication, determined to honour his memory. Later, a mysterious message leaves her parents both bewildered and hopeful. On Mary's birthday, a grand carriage arrives, revealing a miraculous surprise: Captain Hawthorne is alive, accompanied by none other than King George III, who had sent him on a secret mission. The reunion is marked by the unexpected blooming of the flowers, symbolising hope and renewal. The story concludes with Mary as a successful shipowner, her and her grandfather's graves adorned with the same flowers that once connected them across the seas and years.
