Giving a mere dragonkissed authority, in a society that says she doesn't even compare to the lowliest of dragons, didn't win the prince any favors. In fact, Ahena's fairly certain it cost him quite a few who'd remained loyal throughout the early years of the war. Many are disgusted by his unusual attachment to someone of a "lesser species," a "mongrel" at that, and are insulted he'd dare to place her above them.
