These early books contain literature for the young reader, along with fables and folklore that have become part of the fabric of our culture. The books have the familiar look and feel of Elson's later "Dick and Jane" books. The literature selected by Elson for this series not only has literary merit, but has been chosen with an aim to deepen children's appreciation of our American history and heritage, and to encourage the development of virtues such as service to others, honesty, self-sacrifice, appreciation for the natural world, and yes, patriotism. Illustrations are used profusely in the first books as visual aids for the young reader's understanding of the text. This guide contains answers to the "Notes and Questions" sections found at the end of each selection in The Elson Readers: Book Six. Imaginative new exercises have also been created to complement many of the reader's original exercises. For these new exercises, copyable student worksheets are provided. Objectives are listed at the beginning of each section, providing a handy gauge for judging appropriate achievement.
teacheride contains all the questions, along with their answers, from the Notes and Questions sections found at the end of each story in the reader. Additionally, Extended Activities, which have been created specially for this edition, are provided to augment many of the lessons from the reader. Worksheets are provided for these activities which the parent or teacher may copy and hand out to their students.
