South Africa, like the rest of the world is faced with an escalating problem of drug abuse. The emergence of a concoction termed whoonga has added a new and far dangerous dimension to the drug scenario. People suffering from HIV/AIDS are in constant danger of getting robbed of their life-saving medication. The reason for this robbery is that one of the prescribed tablets/medication is used as an ingredient to the whoonga concoction. This has put the governmental efforts to fight HIV/AIDS in serious jeopardy.

Autor

Thina Shembe is a teacher at Clermont near Durban, South Africa. She has a Master¿s degree in Socio-Education. She is currently doing her PhD at the University of South Africa (UNISA). She has recently co-written an article with Dr Vussy Nkonyane of the University of South Africa.
