This project, attempts to look at the effects of western culture and the changing nature of theatrical element, in Gwong marriage system. The Gwong traditional marriage was theatrical, with the music, dances, songs, story, enactment, audience (guests), marriage celebration rituals, costume, make-up etc. All these elements, made the marriage very educating and entertaining. With the coming of the western culture, al these were erased giving way to the western (modern) marriage, which takes place in the church or court, with the bride on her white wedding gown and the groom on suit. The western cultures really affected the Gwong traditional marriage and its theatricality. The Gwong marriage, anywhere, is ritualized for several purposes. It was theatricalized for the purpose of entertainment and sustaining the marriage, like said earlier, it can be said that theatricality is indeed a concrete and fundamental invention to institute a marriage system that is lasting and meaningful.
