The Community Rule is an important document to emerge from Qumran. For fifty years after its discovery scholars relied predominantly on the well-preserved Cave 1 copy. Since the early 1990s, ten additional copies have become available. This is the first commentary to treat all the manuscript and the first in English since A. R. C. Leaney's in 1966.

Charlotte Hempel is Professor of Hebrew Bible and Second Temple Judaism and Head of the School of Philosophy, Theology and Religion at the University of Birmingham, UK. She has published widely on the Dead Sea Scrolls including jointly with George Brooke The T&T Clark Companion to the Dead Sea Scrolls (2019) and served as Editor of Dead Sea Discoveries from 2012-2018.
