Sie beschreibt, wie sie zuerst eingeschlossen war, dann sich vorsichtig hinauswagte, wieder Besorgungen erledigend und die Straßen sich allmählich mit Menschen füllten: Wütenden Menschen angesichts des Mordes an George Floyd und so vielen anderen durch die Polizei; aber auch Menschen, die versuchen, einfach ein Leben zu führen, so »wie es einmal war«. Stunde um Stunde, Tag für Tag läuft sie durch die Stadt, ihre Stadt, und versucht herauszufinden, was all dieses Chaos zu bedeuten hat, bis sie zu einem eigenartigen, alten Boot kommt, das am Pier des Hudson-Rivers liegt.
