Jean Froissart was born in 1337 and served under Philippa of Hainault, the Queen of England. He travelled widely and was welcomed in many of the great courts of Europe. Editorial comments have been moved to footnotes to improve readability and the current editor has added definitions of obscure words, and a comprehensive index.
