When he was twenty-four, he witnessed a catastrophic event that destroyed three innocent children he was close to. He will forever ask himself if he could have prevented this tragedy. In his newfound home in the LGBTQ community, he became aware of hate crimes directed against gays. He saw that in many cases the police in Long Beach, CA, allowed it to happen. When some of his friends became victims, Castiglione knew he had to do something this time. But in order to fully participate in ending brutality directed toward gay men, he was compelled to come out and meet this formidable challenge head-on. His accomplishments were astonishing.
