Literature being the art of the word and the word the basic unit of language, we can say that literature, as well as the language it uses, is an instrument of communication and social interaction and therefore also fulfills the social role of transmitting the knowledge and culture of a community. Thus, the literary work is a living object, the result of dynamic relationships between writer, audience and society. And, like works of art, it must be appreciated, experienced and enjoyed.
