This study aims to analyze the impact of teaching practices on student motivation in biology classes at Liceu do Xangongo. It is a descriptive case study based on a literature review, document analysis, observation, interviews, and a questionnaire. The literature review showed that motivation has been a topic of multidisciplinary interest, with major contributions from psychology and pedagogy to educational practices. Two biology classes were observed, one consisting of content presentation and the other in which students presented group work. In the classes observed, there were no evidence of adequate strategies to reinforce students' motivation to learn. To cross-reference the data, a questionnaire was administered to 40 students in the 12th grade of the Physical and Biological Sciences course, of whom 80% claimed not to like the subject of Biology.
