The witch, Zerlina, who can communicate with animals, shows a strong liking for Brainio and takes an interest in his story. She becomes an important part of Brainio's life, helps him write his diaries and introduces him to adventurous new experiences where he learns more about himself and what are, exactly, the better things he was born for.
