Immigration has acquired its amplified significance in Asian American literature. Within the circumscription of Asian American literature, whether it is Chinese American, Japanese American, Fillipino American, Korean American and South Asian American, the literary representations are predominantly women writings. This is particularly observed in the representations of South Asian writings. So, among the South Asian women writers, as it is illustrated, Bharati Mukherjee deserves to be honoured for the depiction of the problems of immigrant women to the heights of realism. She narrates the situational responses of the immigrant women in the contemporary society. Her literary output depicts the varied problems and difficulties of the immigrant women to the complete extent.
