Climate change is real proof of the permanent evolution of the climate. This evolutionary process, known as 'global change', has led to globalised concern about its impact on life on the planet. It is important to detect and interpret these changes so that we can, if possible, predict them in the future. The sharpest meteorological fluctuations do not always correspond to real evolutionary trends, but may be random changes associated with the internal variability of the atmosphere and/or climate system. This book is dedicated to analysing the variability of extreme temperature values in Western Europe for the period 1957-2007 and their relationship with large-scale anomalies in atmospheric general circulation patterns. The results showed marked differences in the synoptic conditions associated with temperature extremes in the different regions of western Europe, highlighting the various associated dynamic mechanisms. Finally, the correlation of extreme temperature events with thephase and intensity of the most relevant Teleconnection Patterns for Western Europe was sought.
