Adolescent pregnancy represents a public health problem due to the fact that the largest number of cases has been related to rural sectors at the state, national and international levels. Adolescent pregnancy and motherhood are more frequent than society would like to accept; they are difficult experiences that affect the overall health of adolescent parents, their children, family members and society in general. Despite advances in family prevention methods, there is still a high number of cases of unplanned pregnancies in the adolescent population, which represents a serious problem for the population since these young people are at risk of dropping out of school due to pregnancy.Adolescents between 12 and 17 years of age from rural or semi-urban communities are more vulnerable to having an unwanted pregnancy, since they have a low level of knowledge about sexual and reproductive health, and adolescents with unstable mental health may also be at high risk.
