In today s rapidly evolving landscape, digital technologies are reshaping socio-economic and organizational structures. This book explores how the interaction between digital systems and ecosystems is redefining organizational models and influencing decision-making processes across various domains.

It investigates the role of digital technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (generative and non-generative), blockchain, virtual reality, big data, and the Internet of Things (IoT) in shaping new organizational scenarios and examines their impact on sustainability, human resource management in hybrid and gig work, cybersecurity, and the evolution of business models toward a circular economy.

Key topics include digital maturity, knowledge management, algorithmic transparency, digital skills, and data visualization by adopting a multidisciplinary lens and multi-method approaches. Empirical analyses, case studies, and conceptual frameworks provide insights into the challenges and opportunities of digitalization across diverse sectors, including public administration and the non-profit organizations.

The plurality of perspectives makes the book particularly relevant for scholars, professionals, and organizations seeking to understand digital transformation and leverage digital ecosystems to navigate complexities and develop innovative strategies. It is based on revised versions of selected double-blind peer-reviewed papers presented at the annual AIS Italian Chapter conference in Piacenza, Italy, in October 2024.

Autor

Michele Cipriano is a postdoctoral researcher in Organization and Human Resources Management and Adjunct Professor in IT Management at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, Piacenza (Italy). He is also an adjunct Professor of Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility at the University of Tuscia in Viterbo (Italy) and has been a member of the Italian chapter of AIS since 2020. His research focuses on models and evaluation systems for implementing sustainability and circular economy, the digital transformation phenomena in non-profit organizations, and the social impact of renewable energy communities. Alessandra Lazazzara is an Associate Professor of Organization Theory and Human Resource Management at the University of Milan, Italy, where she serves as the Chair of the Bachelor's Degree Program in Management of Organizations and Work. Her research interests include AI and HRM, workplace inclusion, and job crafting.  She is an Associate Editor of Gender, Work and Organization and serves as Vice President of the Italian Chapter of the Association for Information Systems (ItAIS).   Leonardo Caporarello is the Associate Dean for Online Learning Experiences and Professor of Practice of Leadership and Negotiation at SDA Bocconi School of Management (Italy), where he’s also the Academic Director of the Learning Lab. Leonardo is the Rector’s Delegate for Digital Learning at Bocconi University (Italy), and the Director of BUILT – Bocconi University Innovations in Learning and Teaching. Leonardo is a Member of the Advisory Board of e-Learning & Innovative Pedagogies Research Network (USA). His main research and teaching activities focus on the following topics: multi-cultural negotiation processes; conflict management; change management dynamics; leading teams, in a co-located and virtual setting; analysis and redesign of organizational structures and processes; and designing effective online and blended learning experiences.  Leonardo is Associate Editor of the Journal of Contemporary Business Studies and Vice President for Education of the Italian Chapter of the Association for Information Systems (ItAIS).
