Garza is associate professor of history and ethnic studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. His research focuses on nineteenth-century Mexico and global/comparative environmental history. He is the author of The Imagined Underworld: Sex, Crime and Vice in Porfirian Mexico City.
