This book describes plant viruses and virus taxa approved by the ICTV up to 2020 for easy and quick access for plant virus taxonomy and classification information at one place, in the form of a reference book. This is an attempt to bring out all the relevant information including the very recent plant virus families which are scattered in individual articles, reviews, text book chapters and on ICTV websites in the form of hard copy. To maintain universal plant virus taxonomy, ICTV continuously updates and develops the plant virus database. Presently, there are 5 identified orders; 26 families; 118 identified genera and 1516 virus species. In addition, there are significant number of unidentified orders, family and genera. The establishment of an order is based on the inference that the virus families of it would have most likely evolved from a common ancestor. At present all the classification and taxonomy of viruses of vertebrate, invertebrate, protozoa, algae, fungi, bacteria, archaea and of higher plants are dealt by ICTV at one place in one Website. This book would provide latest information of the most important characteristics of these taxa, together with a list of species and tentative species along with descriptions and bibliography. The information included in this book serve as a useful tool for research scientists, faculties in the universities, research organizations seed companies, quarantine personnel and institutions involved in research and teaching on plant virology and would serve as a comprehensive, precise and reference source at global level.
