The genus Scinax Wagler, 1830, belonging to the subfamily Scinaxinae, is represented by 70 described species and occupies areas from Mexico, Argentina and Uruguay to Trinidad, Tobago and St Lucia. Due to this high number of species, high morphological conservation and the continuous discovery of new undescribed species, the genus is currently considered a taxonomic problem.
