Tanis

In the late nineteenth century, pioneering archaeologist Flinders Petrie (1853-1942) began excavations in the ruined city of Tanis, once the political centre of Lower Egypt. Reissued here together, these two illustrated excavation reports, published 1885-8, include material by Francis Llewellyn Griffith (1862-1934) and Alexander Stuart Murray (1841-1904).
