This gave rise to the research problem and the decision was made to carry out a review. This work recognizes the importance of the role of the specialist nurse in caring for people in a palliative situation in a palliative care unit, from the process of identifying the needs of the family/caregivers, to planning and carrying out interventions designed to relieve suffering, promote comfort, well-being and quality of life.The importance of specialized professional training for the development and consolidation of skills, which represent the basis for a path of improvement and permanent adaptation to a constantly changing context, is highlighted.
