Information technology has to be exploited to meet todays challenges within healthcare. This book describes a structured electronic medical record system in nursing homes in Bergen, Norway. Its decision making support and statistical capabilities shows how quality can be improved and how quality- and management data can be collected in an automated way. The system was installed and mission critical use started in seven institutions with 800 users in only 3 months. This may be considered one of the most interesting results of the project.

Autor

The author is department chief for "department of nursing home medicine" in Bergen, Norway, responsible for 23 nursing homes with 2300 beds. He is geriatrician and has a master degree in health administration.
