This volume presents studies that reflect upon and with materials in motion. Drawing on examples from film, painting, installation art, architecture, or photography, the essays explore the aesthetic and epistemic potentials of fluids. Instead of thinking about the imagery of fluidity, they focus on actual liquids such as foam, water, ink, or chemicals.
Fluide Materialien sind eigen: Sie verspritzen, laufen über, fließen davon, vermischen und zerstreuen sich, neigen zur Bewegung und Transformation. Sie sind somit Zeugen einer materiellen Welt im Fluss. Aufgrund ihrer Dynamik widersprechen sie der Vorstellung von der Materie als einer trägen und passiven Substanz.
Die Autorinnen und Autoren des Bandes reflektieren über verschiedenste Materialien in Bewegung. Anhand unterschiedlicher künstlerischer Formate - Malerei, Film, Fotografie, Skulptur, Installation, Architekturmodelle - thematisieren sie die Besonderheiten fluider Stoffe in Theorie und Praxis. So stehen nicht Metaphern des Flüssigen im Fokus, sondern reale Flüssigkeiten in Aktion.
