It presents both the linguistic forms and functions of English as well as the actual information and advice adults need in order to function comfortably. The focus of each of the 14 units is a particular survival situation. Topic areas include transportation, banking, shopping, housing, medical care, and emergencies. Each unit is self-contained and follows the same clear format: a full-color, contextualized presentation of topic area and vocabulary, followed by simple, practical conversations and a variety of exercises to reinforce the vocabulary and structures. Students have practice in all four skills. The book is accompanied by a Cassette.
