"Die Wassernymphe Rusalka hat sich in den Prinzen verliebt, der oft zum Baden in ihren See kommt, und sie sehnt sich danach, ein Mensch zu werden, damit er sie in seine Arme schließen kann. Der Wasserkobold Wodnik warnt sie vor diesem Schritt, sagt ihr aber, dass sie, wenn sie darauf bestehe, die Hexe Jezibaba konsultieren müsse. Zuvor betet Rusalka zum Mond, um dem Prinzen zu sagen, dass sie auf ihn wartet. Das Märchen endet tragisch mit dem Tod des Prinzen und Rusalkas Rückkehr in ein einsames Leben unter Wasser.
