She has been writing since she was a young girl; her words have long been her refuge, her resistance, and her way of making meaning out of life's harshest blows. Her life has been marked by both triumph and unimaginable grief. She has survived the pain of profound loss, including the death of her beloved daughter, Nikki Claudette, and the heartbreak of betrayal after decades of marriage. And yet, she persevered, with grit shaped by hardship, and a heart softened by reflection. Now returned to her roots in Hebbronville, Lupita serves as an Assistant County Attorney and has lovingly restored her casita into a haven of peace. It is from this place of solitude and renewal that her poetry emerges.
