Once part of the Royal manor of Matlock, Snitterton came to John Sacheverel of Morley upon his marriage to the Snitterton heiress. He was slain at the Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485. It was sold in 1596 by Henry Sacheverel and in about 1630 was acquired by John Milward, ( son of Ralph Milward KB, Chief Justice of Cheshire) who was High Sheriff of Derbyshire in 1620 and 1635 and who served as a Colonel in the arm...
