The authors' interest in the subject arose from their participation in the project "LETRAR: letters and numbers," coordinated by professors Cristiane Dias Martins da Costa and José Carlos Aragão Silva, both lecturers at the Federal University of Maranhão - Codó Campus, with the support and partnership of the Codó Municipal Department of Education. Given the presence of a deaf student in the project, all authors felt compelled to research the presence of deaf students in regular education and the training of teachers in the municipal network of Codó. The assumptions to be worked on in this research are organized into three chapters. First, there will be a contextualization of the municipality of Codó, as well as a brief presentation of the LETRAR Project. Chapter two will deal with deaf students in the educational context. Finally, the research data will be presented, considering teachers as mediators of the inclusion of deaf students. During the reading, the difference between hearing impaired and deaf people will be addressed, as well as the importance of Deaf Culture, Sign Language Interpreters, and Brazilian Sign Language for the learning of deaf students.
