These artists, working in what is contentiously called an Italian Pop style, often used the visual vocabulary of Pop Art but forged a path that they considered both innovative and experimental. This catalog for a show in Rome brings together works from the 1960s created by 12 Piazza del Popolo artists: Franco Angeli, Mario Ceroli, Tano Festa, Giosetta Fioroni, Jannis Kounellis, Sergio Lombardo, Francesco Lo Savio, Renato Mambor, Pino Pascali, Mimmo Rotella, Mario Schifano and Cesare Tacchi. The catalog features personal recollections of the period by Professor Emmanuele Emanuele, texts by Giovanno Morabio and Giancarlo Carpi, an essay by the curator of the show, Gabriele Simongini, excerpts from writings by a number of the featured artists, biographies, and archival photographs.
