He is also a former infielder in Major League Baseball, and prior to managing the Rangers, Washington coached in the New York Mets and Oakland Athletics organizations.Washington was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 1971. He spent the next ten seasons in the minor leagues with three different organizations (Royals, Mets & Dodgers).
