The functional component of the immune system originated from myeloid and lymphoid precursor cells of haemopoietic stem cells. Cells of innate immunity are from myeloid precursor cells granulocytes, monocytes/macrophages, mast cells, and basophils and the cells of adaptive immunity developed from lymphoid precursor cells i.e. the B and T lymphocytes. B lymphocytes produce antibodies while T lymphocytes work as helper, cytotoxic, and suppressor cells. Lymph nodes, spleen and thymus provide support for the function of the cellular component of the immune system.
