Roemer van Toorn (The Netherlands, Amsterdam, 1960) is a history and theory professor at the Berlage Institute Laboratory of Architecture, Rotterdam. He graduated with honors from the Delft University of Technology as an architect and published The Invisible in Architecture (1994) in collaboration with Ole Bouman, in which he dissected the varied range of cultural, economic, political and philosophic outlook within the contemporary architectural and urban discourse with the aim of outlining the different positions and issues of today s architecture. As professor, he runs and coordinates the Projective Theory program at the Berlage Institute, and is a staff member of the Delft School of Design (DSD) run by Prof. Dr. Arie Graafland at Delft University of Technology, while at the same time pursuing a career as an international lecturer.
