He played from 2001 until 2005 with the Florida Everblades of the East Coast Hockey League before deciding to play in Europe. He joined SaiPa of the Finnish League where he played two seasons. He joined the EisBaren in 2007. Rumors report his cousin Dan Mahoney, of Bethpage, NY is following his footsteps and is the top goaltending propect in the 2012 NHLDraft. He has the record in the OHL for consective shutouts with 16.
