The soil of the experimental field was loamy sand in texture, with low to medium fertility status (i.e. 90.1 and 95.0 kg N, 14.2 and 15.9 kg P2O5, 160.4 and 157.7 kg K2O, 0.34 and 0.38 mg kg-1 Zn and 2.90 and 2.98 mg kg-1 Fe) with pH 8.43 and 8.45 during 2009-10 and 2010-11. Wheat variety Raj-3077 was sown at 22.5 cm row spacing using seed rate of 120 kg ha-1.
