Considering this premise, here are some questions: what are the representations of urban space produced by individuals and social groups in their lived universe? What are the impacts of urbanization on the lives of ordinary people? How do spatial changes influence the web of relationships between women and men and their experienced ground? This book attempts to look at some of these representations of urban space. As an example, we will look at the urbanization march underway in the peri-urban part of Rio de Janeiro's West Zone known as Guaratiba. With this in mind, we will try to capture the different representations of the urban phenomenon in Guaratiba.
