Undoubtedly, multicast is an efficient means of group oriented communication. Within the broad scope of group communication, the author addresses the fundamental problem of reliable multicasting for MANET. In doing so, the author excavated all the concern related to reliable multicasting. For batter understanding of the concept, the author also elaborately discussed different classes of multicasting protocol for MANET. This book covers most of the existing reliable multicasting protocols and provides a comparative study on these. Based on the analysis it came up with a new approach based on virtual backbone infrastructure. The backbone infrastructure is constructed by using an algorithm that extract a d-hop dominating set and interconnect them to form a backbone. This backbone infrastructure is used to transmit multicast packets reliably.
