William A. "Gus" McClendon joined the 15th Alabama Infantry Regiment, and served in many of the eastern theater engagements. More than fifty years later, he penned his reminiscences, still an unreconstructed Southern patriot, although able to look back with some amusement on his younger self. Keith S. Bohannon is Associate Professor of History at the University of West Georgia. He is coeditor of A Georgian with "Old Stonewall" in Virginia: The Letters of Ujanirtus Allen, Company F, 21st Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry.
