Considering the degree of urban livelihoods deterioration in the Sub Saharan African countries like Zimbabwe due to socio-economic and political factors, the study was undertaken to explore the roles of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) on rebuilding sustainable urban livelihoods. This study was conducted in Mbare, one of the poverty stricken high density residential areas of Harare in Zimbabwe. Oxfam GB and ZimPro joint initiative s programmes and projects were the ones examined during the study.

Blessing Gweshengwe, a Beit Trust Scholar, is a MA in Poverty and Development student at the Institute of Development Studies, University of Sussex,UK : he holds a Bsc Honours Degree in Rural and Urban Planning from the University of Zimbabwe.Blessing has particular interest in both rural and urban livelihoods/poverty.
