There is humor throughout the book, as being single and then married with children. There is reflection on the pride of being a member of the United States Air Force and working with others in a team effort. There is the fear felt by parents when their sons and daughters enter the military and the worry of whether their assignments will be to friendly or hostile situations. Emphasis is placed on the many friendships possible in the communities around the military installations. Emphasis is also placed on worship and being a part of the air base, army post, or naval station chapel program, being members of local churches, for families starting up new congregations and bible studies. In overseas areas, it can be a lifetime experience making friends with local people such as our family with French, German and Filipinos and American missionaries in those areas. The thrust of the book is to reach the hands of service men and women and their families and also churches and clubs who want to support their military away from home. The ninth chapter deals with my coming retirement and the struggle to move it to another career field, or in my case the preaching ministry.
