Entamoeba histolytica (E. histolytica) is a protozoan parasite of the human digestive tract, specifically of the large intestine, considered as the only pathogenic species within the parasitic amoebae that affect the large intestine. Spread occurs by: food handlers such as domestic servants or restaurant cooks, poor excreta disposal, irrigation of vegetables with contaminated water, flies and cockroaches.
