The book examines the prospects and consequences of utilizing social media for disseminating agricultural information among rural farmers in Benue State, Nigeria. With the increasing penetration of digital technology, social media platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp, and YouTube have emerged as vital tools for communication and information sharing. The advantages identified include enhanced reach across vast geographical areas, reduced social isolation among farmers, improved networking opportunities, and timely access to agricultural updates and market information. However, challenges persist, including illiteracy, high data costs, inadequate training on social media usage, and concerns regarding misinformation. This research employs a mixed-methods approach, combining surveys and interviews with local farmers and agricultural extension officers to assess the effectiveness of social media in meeting their information needs. The findings indicate that while social media can significantly enhance agricultural productivity by facilitating quicker access to information, its impact is often hindered by socio-economic barriers.
