In addition, occurrence of DVT will prolong patient s period of hospitalization. It also leads to emotional consequences of pain, extended isolation and impaired social interaction that will have impact on every aspect of patient s life. Unless standards for orthopaedic nursing practices are set, monitored and evaluated, it is unlikely that the desired quality of nursing practice will be achieved and maintained. By developing this standard, orthopaedic nurse will be provided with an action plan to expand their role in clinical decision making with other health team.
