In 1930s the Progressive Party was captured by socialists/communists and ever since the word "progressive" has been used as a false face for every leftist movement from liberalism to socialism. You will be surprised to discover that people and movements that are today associated with either the extreme right or the extreme left were all part of the progressive movement of 1880 to 1930.
