Influence of different feeding regimes on growth, carcass and meat quality parameters

Pakistan is an important sheep producing country and it ranks 11th in sheep population in the world. The data was collected on the parameters as, weight gain, feed intake and growth rate.The results show that the effect of CONC.diet was significant on daily dry matter intake (P=0.001), feed conversion ratio(P0.05), daily weight gain (P0.05), final live weight(P0.001), carcass weight (P0.001), dressing percentage (P0.001), conformation scores (P0.05), KKCF (P0.001), head weight (P0.05), heart weight (P=0.05), kidneys weight (P0.001), stomach weight (P0.05), skin weight (P0.001), liver weight (P=0.05), lungs weight (P=0.001), trotter (feet) (P0.05), total bones (P0.05), circumference of buttock (P0.05) and fat score (P0.001) as compared to the FOD. fed lambs. However of FOD. fed lambs had longer finishing period (P0.001), heavy total bones (P0.05), weight of m. longissimus dorsi (P0.05), Lean:bone ratio (P0.05) and more leaner carcasses (P=0.06) than CONC. fed lambs. The results ofthis trial show that the sex had an effect on growth and carcass composition. Therefore castration may only increase the fatness of carcass but lean remains lower.

Mr Muhammad Tariq was born on March 10, 1980, Sargodha(Punjab)-Pakistan. He did BSc (Hons) Animal Husbandry) in 2004 and MSc (Hons) LM in 2006. He is a PhD scholar (Germany) and lecturer in LM Dept. Dr M.I. Mustafa is Assoc. Prof. in LM Dept.UAF-Pakistan. Mr Sibtain Ahmad is a PhD scholar (China) and also lecturer in the same Dept.
