As its title indicates, this study deals with the problematic situations relating to environmental management in the artisanal mining sector. For southern countries such as the Democratic Republic of the Congo, our study area, poverty is one of the factors encouraging disagreement between stakeholders on sustainable environmental management in the mining sector. The study attempts to identify the scale of the problem by asking the following question: "How can we elucidate the problematic situations relating to environmental management in the artisanal mining sector? We have used the anthropology of law and symbolic interactionism as our theoretical lenses for reading the facts. Impacts on human health and the ecological environment are the major concerns of the stakeholders involved.
