The 2000 census found 1,260 people in the township. Originally part of neighboring Delaware County, Peru Township became part of Morrow County in 1848. Statewide, the only other Peru Township is located in Huron County. The township is governed by a three-member board of trustees, who are elected in November of odd-numbered years to a four-year term beginning on the following January 1.
