The links between procrastination and perfectionism have been studied extensively. It has been shown that self-efficacy acts as a mediator between procrastination and adaptive perfectionism. The present study investigated whether perfectionistic procrastination represents a new type of procrastination. To this end, the nine theoretically constructed subscales of the construct of perfectionistic procrastination were reduced to five subscales using confirmatory factor analysis: procrastination due to high personal standards, procrastination due to expectations of others, consequences of procrastination - upsetting others, evaluation phase, and completion of an action. In addition, the relationships between procrastination, adaptive and maladaptive perfectionism, self-efficacy and perfectionistic procrastination were investigated. The results of the mediation analysis show that self-efficacy is a mediator between adaptive perfectionism and procrastination, between maladaptive perfectionism and procrastination, and between maladaptive perfectionism and perfectionistic procrastination.
