The uncertainty of war results in an increasing bitterness and hostility in this young man, who is beginning to display exceptional inner turmoil amongst his family. Ultimately, this young man's quest for a better life begins quite unexpectedly one day, when he seizes upon a dangerous opportunity. This opportunity propels him into a survival mode that results in a trail of desperation through Albania, Turkey, across the Atlantic, and finally to a small town in Maine. His troubled mind is briefly calmed when he meets and marries a young woman who bears him a son...a son soon abandoned and forgotten. Hate and vengeance emerge from the turn of events which lasts for decades and is finally complicated by a series of murders in the small town of Bridgeway, Maine.
