The city of Ottawa, Canada held municipal elections on November 8, 1982. Mayor Marion Dewar is re-elected, defeating conservative Darrel Kent. Marion Dewar, CM (March 31, 1928 September 15, 2008) was a prominent member of the New Democratic Party (NDP), mayor of Ottawa from 1978 to 1985 and a member of the Parliament of Canada from 1986 to 1988. Born Marion Bell in Montreal in 1928, she was raised in the town of Buckingham, Quebec, just outside Ottawa.
