In the multiparticulate systems, the dosage of the drug substances is distributed on a plurality of subunit, namely consisting of thousands of spherical particles with diameter of 0.05-2.00mm. Thus the multiparticulate dosage forms are the pharmaceutical formulations in which the active substance API is present as a number of small independent subunits. For the delivery of the recommended total dose, these subunits are filled into a sachet or into a capsule and encapsulated or compressed into a tablet and then administered in to the patient. Multiparticulates comprises of discrete particles , so they are called multipleunit system. As they have small size , so they have many advantages over single-unit systems e.g., multiparticulates are less dependent on gastric emptyting, resulting in less inter and intra-subject variability in gastrointestinal transit time.
